Excavation

A soldier pile wall was constructed to protect the road from shifting. Static calculations were made for the wall. The excavation pit had a total of 3 levels plus the pit for the lift shaft.

Shell

The building was constructed entirely from pre-cast concrete elements. In other words, all the walls and ceilings were built using pre-cast concrete elements.

Exterior plaster

Rough-in installation heating and plumbing

The shell installation for the heating and sanitation systems. Particular care was taken to ensure that sanitation facilities are wheelchair accessible.

Screed

A power trowel was used to smooth the surface of the floating screed. An approximately 8 cm thick insulating panel is installed under the screed.

Dry walls

Almost all dry wall elements are Fire Protection Class F-90 or F-60.

Vinyl

A dark colour was selected for the vinyl to create clear boundaries for the visually impaired. This clear delineation makes it easier to differentiate between bathrooms and living areas. The floor covering is very robust and can be cleaned using any cleaning agent.

Painting work

A colour concept was developed to simplify orientation in the building, thus making it easier for patients to find their way around. The base colour is white but every storey is painted a different colour.

Tiles

Thick-coating seals were used in the shower area. The mosaic in the shower area is R11 rated, the anti-slip protection class for wheelchair accessible bathrooms. The bathrooms have been tiled using white tiles in 30 x 60 cm format to ensure that the spaces are bright and airy.
