The building was formerly a school and had been empty for several years. On the top floor there used to be an apartment which provided a home and work space for an artist.
Gutting of the existing building was carried out completely by hand. The old non-load bearing walls were removed, as were the floors and plaster.
A new building was constructed on the side of the existing one. The design includes floor-to-ceiling windows to maximise light. Both the existing and the new building have buried supply lines.
The local carpenter and roofer constructed a flat roof for the annex/new building. The carpenter’s structure rests on a ring beam on top of all the walls. The roof is a membrane structure.
